Microstructure with diffusion MRI: what scale we are sensitive to?

نویسندگان

چکیده

Diffusion-weighted MRI is the forerunner of rapidly developed microstructure (?MRI) aimed at in vivo evaluation cellular tissue architecture. This brief review focuses on spatiotemporal scales that are accessible using different diffusion techniques and need to weight measurability against interpretability results. Diffusion phenomena models first classified two-dimensional space (the q-t-plane) measurement with narrow gradient pulses. Three-dimensional parameter Stejskal–Tanner weighting adds more this collection. Modern larger number parameters briefly discussed under overarching idea matching geometry targeted cell species.

Are we expecting too much from the diffusion-weighted MRI?

(DW-MRI) is a method where the signal required to produce a MRI image is determined by the " mobility of water ". Diffusivity measurements have multiple components related to tissue cellularity and organization, integrity of the cell membranes, extracellular space tortuosity and perfusion (1). Until recent years, main limitation for the use of DWI in the body area wa the artefacts originating f...

Molecular approaches to diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis what we know and what we do not know.

Invasive aspergillosis (IA) are a major complication in immunocompromized patients where can be serious and rapidly fatal. Early diagnosis and early appropriate antifungal treatment is important in reducing mortality and morbidity. But despite many efforts to develop detection methods, the diagnosis of IA still remains challenging and current conventional methods are limited for adequate diagno...

Diffusion MRI of Brain Connectivity and Microstructure:

What is a “diffusion coefficient” or “diffusion tensor” in living tissue, anyway? While the measurement of the self-diffusivity in an NMR tube represents a "gold standard", in complex media particularly in living tissue, water “diffusivity” ceases to have a clear meaning or definition. The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and apparent diffusion tensor (ADT) concepts were introduced to answe...

What can we see with IVIM MRI?

Intravoxel Incoherent Motion (IVIM) refers to translational movements which within a given voxel and during the measurement time present a distribution of speeds in orientation and/or amplitude. The IVIM concept has been used to estimate perfusion in tissues as blood flow in randomly oriented capillaries mimics a pseudo-diffusion process. IVIM-based perfusion MRI, which does not require contras...
